Fiona Loud, Policy Director of Kidney Care UK, comments: “We urge patients, donors, families or staff not to use or engage with a business known as Organ Tree or any similar ones which claim to be able to provide transplants. The only way to be listed for a transplant in the UK is though the national body; NHS Blood and Transplant on www.organdonation.nhs.uk.
Do not sign up with any organisation that claims they will pay you for donating an organ; payment for giving or receiving an organ is illegal in the UK. It is shameful that organisations like this can exist and prey on people who are hoping for a transplant. The donation of organs is an act of generosity which we recognise and applaud.
For more information on this, please contact the Human Tissue Authority and NHS Blood and Transplant.”
