Our Ambassador for Kidney Care UK in Northern Ireland, Jo-Anne Dobson has thanked the shoppers of Coleraine Tesco for their ‘extremely generous and wonderful’ support for local kidney patients and their families through the charity fundraiser held at the store on Saturday 4 May.
Organ Donation champion Jo-Anne, who last March donated a kidney to her son Mark, was joined by well known local kidney recipient Heather Vance and her ten year old daughter Rebecca from Coleraine who were instrumental in making the fundraiser so successful.
Jo-Anne said: “When I was at the Transplant Ward at Belfast City Hospital after undergoing surgery to donate a kidney to my son I shared a ward with Heather. She had just received a kidney transplant and we struck up a strong and lasting friendship. Heather and Rebecca are wonderful advocates for kidney patients and I am so delighted and honoured to call them both firm friends and to have their fantastic support.
“I am indebted to Heather and the staff at Tesco Coleraine for our fundraising day and I send my grateful thanks for the generous support we received from staff, management and customers. It was lovely to get the chance to chat with so many shoppers about their own transplant experiences. It never ceases to amaze me as we continue our crusade to promote Organ Donation that we always meet so many people who have a connection to the Organ Donation family.”
Commenting Heather said: “In our local community we have so many families touched by kidney disease and organ donation. I’m determined to help continue to raise awareness of the need to support patients directly, as Kidney Care UK does through our local Renal Unit at Altnagelvin Area Hospital. Important support for local patients which is only made possible because of the continued generosity of local people. Massive thanks to everyone at Tesco in the town for their support and to Jo-Anne for joining us on the day to speak with customers and help with our superb fundraising.”
