Five-mile cross country run raises over £450
- 09 Dec 2022
We would like to offer a huge thank you and congratulations to Private Isaac Doku, who took part in a country challenge on 6 December and has currently raised £470 for Kidney Care UK through his JustGiving page.
Pte Doku, who received surgery due to kidney complications, ran five miles along with 500 other army personnel, with the first two miles involving carrying a 5kg load in a daysack.
As a soldier, Pte Doku was looking forward to serving in a real conflict, but a week before his first deployment abroad he realised that he couldn’t drive and could hardly move. He was rushed to A&E and operated on shortly afterwards.
“The thought of going under the knife made me wonder whether I would ever be able to fully recover to my strength levels again," says Pte Doku. "I prayed and let the doctors carry on with the emergency surgery and two subsequent surgeries, so three in total!
“After the surgery I was thankful for the swift action of my doctors and eager to get my strength back. With the support of the medical team and everyone who supported me, I am now back to my normal self. I still carry the scars and sometimes experience pain when I stretch myself too much.”
Support Pte Doku's fundraising campaign for Kidney Care UK by donating on his JustGiving page.
