Holidays, breaks and the ability to take a trip are an essential part of being able to live a fulfilling life. Whether you are going on holiday, travelling for a family celebration, or for work, dialysis shouldn’t prevent you from being able to take a respite break.
What support is available?
Kidney Care UK Dialysis Freedom is a FREE service on hand to help anyone needing to access dialysis when spending time away from home or hospital unit within the UK. The team take care of all the arrangements and administration, helping to take the stress out of your trip.

What dialysis centres can I access in the UK?
There are dialysis centres across the UK. You can find options near where you are planning to travel to on the Dialysis Freedom dialysis centre map and then let the team know if you’d like support to book dialysis for your trip there.
As dialysis capacity at some locations is scarce and you may have to consider dialysis further away from your initial destination we recommend that you try to book as far in advance as possible.
Some dialysis units are focused specifically on providing dialysis for those on holiday or taking a break. These include:
- Lakeland Dialysis Centre, Cockermouth
- KC Dialysis Centre, Bournemouth
- Norfolk Holiday Dialysis, Dersingham

I’d love to travel but can’t afford a trip. Is there any support available?
Kidney Care UK also give grants to individuals and families towards the cost of a basic holiday in the UK or overseas. The grant can be used to cover the total cost if it is modest or it can be used as a contribution towards the final cost.
