From 14 June to 15 July, 32 teams (including England) will be battling to become football’s World Cup winners. You can join the fun through our World Cup Sweepstake.
Hosting our sweepstake is a fun and exciting way to get competitive with friends, family and colleagues whilst also raising awareness and funds for Kidney Care UK.
Simply request our free Kidney Care UK World Cup Sweepstake pack for all the materials you need to host your very own sweepstake. Then gather people to play. That’s it.
How does the Kidney Care UK World Cup sweepstake work
What do you have to do?
Your task is finding the people to play. We will send you everything else you need.
Who can play?
Anyone can play. You can play with family, friends, colleagues, a group or club you belong to or those you occasionally talk to in the pub. The only requirement is that they are happy to part with some money to ‘own’ a team.
Should you look to play on someone else’s property (ie. at work or your local), please make sure you ask permission first.
If the interest is there, feel free to run more than one sweepstake. You could run one with your friends and one at work, for example.
How many people do I need to play?
There is no minimum or maximum number of players. 32 teams will take part in the World Cup and the game works best when you sell all the teams; if you have 32 players, then each player gets one team; if you have less than 32 players, encourage each player to buy more than one team; should you have more than 32 players, you can host more than one sweepstake.
What happens if I don’t sell all the teams?
You don’t have to sell all the teams for the game to work. The only worry with not selling all the teams is that you might find one of the teams that has not yet been bought wins. Should this happen, you can decide to give the prize to the person whose team made it the furthest or declare no winner and donate all the raised funds to Kidney Care UK.
What can I use as a prize?
This can be anything that has enough gravitas to interest your audience. Our favourites are donated prizes, such as a meal voucher from a local restaurant or a hamper from the local shop. Or, easier still, you can offer a cash prize (that can be taken from the entry fees). If you choose to offer a cash prize, we suggest you split the entry fee with 50% going to the prize pool and the remaining 50% being donated to Kidney Care UK. It might be worth offering a prize for 2nd and 3rd as well.
How do I choose the entry fee?
The higher the entry fee, the more you will raise for Kidney Care UK. If you choose to offer a cash prize taken from the entry fee as well, the higher the fee the higher the prize can be too. But remember, if you only have a small group of players, then you might be better with a lower entry fee so each player buys more than one team.
How do I 'host' the draw?
You can choose to do this however suits you, but we suggest you hold off from doing the draw until you have a good idea of your players (otherwise the best teams might come out early and then no one else will join the game!). As part of our pack, we provide you cut outs for each team, simply:
- Cut these out, fold them over a few times and place them into a bag, hat, envelope or even a sock.
- Then each player draws a team (this can be down by the individual themselves or you can do it on their behalf).
- Once everyone has their team, add the team owners name to the poster.
How does the sweepstake support Kidney Care UK
Simply hosting a sweepstake will help raise awareness. As you talk to those who might be interested in taking part, you can mention that it is in aid of Kidney Care UK. And by asking for an entry fee you are also raising funds that help us improve life for kidney patients. You can find out more about how we support kidney patients in our latest impact report.
This is a fun game simply using the world cup to help raise awareness and funds for Kidney Care UK. Neither you, nor we, have any control or influence over any of the results or other activity that comes from the World Cup this summer.
