Low salt, kidney-friendly recipes you can enjoy everyday!
We receive more questions asking how to eat to stay well with chronic kidney disease (CKD) than almost any other topic. So, as we start the new year in 2021, there’s no better time to check-in to the Kidney Kitchen. If you are looking for a kidney-friendly way to eat a little healthier but still taste delicious then we have put together a collection of recipes you can enjoy eating everyday as part of a healthy balanced diet, which are also very low in salt. We will also be promoting our range of vegan and vegetarian recipes each week on social media, so look out for our #MeatlessMonday posts for some meat free inspiration.
We know how important it is for our recipes to fit in with the dietary advice you have been given by your own dietitian. So, every one of our Kidney Kitchen recipes is very carefully analysed by the British Dietetic Association Renal Nutrition Specialist Group (RNG). We have recipes to suit all diets and occasions that have been modified to fit more closely with the various needs of people living with kidney disease and comes with a comprehensive set of ‘Food Facts’ to help you manage your diet. For those living with diabetes and who have been trained in insulin adjustment, the carbohydrate value is also provided for every recipe.
Many of recipes include the option to adapt one or two ingredients to make the dish vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free. They also include tips and advice on making the recipes even healthier, reducing the cost with cheaper options and how to safely store and use up any leftovers.
We will show you, in a series of easy-to-follow steps, how to prepare and cook delicious meals at home, even if you are new to cooking! Choose from pea and mint risotto, pork medallions with apples and mustard or homemade fish and chips with mushy peas. Or why not be inspired by our guest chefs to try Caribbean oven baked fish on bed of sautéed veg, tandoori chicken or dal makhani.
